This is an elliptical, robust wastebasket made in stainless steel or painted. It is very practical and suitable for narrow streets.

In 1988, Francisco Gavilán said in his book Guide of bad Spanish customs: «the unyielding attachment which we feel for dirt in this country (...) is a bad custom to which foreigners are especially sensitive: ‘Spaniards are the only people who throw litter on the floor and then pay someone else to pick it up’».

Campaigns such as «Keep Spain Tidy» and the massive provision of wastebaskets in the streets managed to make the Spanish people aware that they were not for decorative purposes. It took little time for wastebaskets to take on a variety of shapes so as to adapt to different urban areas and practical uses.

The urban Rambla wastebasket, upright or attached to the wall, is a simple, economic and long-lasting product. It has an elliptical base and a simple, sober appearance with a reasonable capacity. It is especially suitable for narrow pavements.

It is a unit with remarkable compositional possibilities when placed in groups diagonally, front to back or parallel, stressing any particular arrangement. Practicality of use, handling and aesthetic criteria were taken into account in the design. It is opaque to hide its contents.

Stainless steel sheet or heat-galvanised steel basket, painted on the outside with black forged Oxiron paint or different-coloured RAL lacquer as required. Basket emptying is done by using the trap door located at the bottom.

The structure comprises two 40 x 40-mm and 4-mm thick L-shaped sections, welded to a stainless steel or heat-galvanised steel platen of 16 cm in diameter and 5 mm thick. The unit is delivered totally assembled. Assembly instructions are included with the wastebasket. The wastebasket is fixed to the ground using two blind stainless steel or galvanised steel bolts, welded to each platen and introduced into holes which have been previously made and filled with Epoxi resin, quick-setting Portland or similar cement. No maintenance of any kind is required.
