This street lamp is a tree of light created for a three-fold objective: for ground-projected lighting, reduced consumption and an optional number of lamps at different heights and in different positions.
"The heaven-tree of stars hung with humid night-blue fruit."
(James Joyce, "Ulysses", 1921)
Since Neolithic times the tree has been known as the axis mundi, the "axis of the world". It was thought to be sited at a cosmic centre. It appears symbolically in numerous manifestations in art as the arbor vitae, the "tree of life". The Rama street lamp is a modern interpretation of this philosophical concept. It has a very simple and modern structure like a tree trunk in winter with a large number of branches in different positions and at different heights. All of these are a point of light.
It is a simple, innovative and versatile street lamp with a cylindrical column and different heights, to which one or more lamps can be fitted, using clamps, at different heights and in different directions. It is suitable for any urban area.
The extruded aluminium lamps are equipped with compact fluorescent lamps. This gives them good light performance and a long life with reduced consumption. The degree of light pollution is nil because of its light projection angle, which falls directly onto the ground.
4,00, 7,00 or 6,00 meter tall and 129 mm diameter columns of hot-galvanised steel or polished stainless steel, for 1 or 2 lights of identical or different heights. Eight meter high, double-section columns of hot galvanised steel for 1 or 2 lights of different heights. Lower part powder-painted, and upper part of polished stainless steel for 5 lights of different heights. Lamp and attachment bridle made of grey injected polyamide, with aluminium reflector and hardened-glass diffuser. For compact fluorescent lights of 57 or 70 W, or discharge lights of high-pressure sodium vapour, or metallic halogen lights of maximum 150 W. The piece comes disassembled. The street lamp is delivered with assembly instructions. The column is fixed using a reinforced concrete cube, made on site, and anchorage bolts. The foundations should provide a slot for the electrical connection. Anchorage bolts and pattern come with the column. Normal part replacement and maintenance.
