The tray was drawn by Hans J. Wegner in 1956 for Johannes Hansen's Workshop. PP Møbler resumed the production in 1991. PP 586 is the result of a rare occasion; Wegner as turner.

The Fruit Bowl is produced in either ash or mahogany, which is subsequently treated with the natural product Ricin-oil. On purchase, a small bottle of this oil from the company Aurora is enclosed.
