+MODO – powerful and poetic
Poggenpohl presents an attractive new kitchen architecture
+MODO is the name of the new kitchen architecture created for Poggenpohl by the renowned Spanish designer Jorge Pensi. It is a powerful, poetic dialogue between displaying and concealing. Poggenpohl presented the new kitchen architecture, that corresponds to the taste of a design-oriented audience, for the first time at the International Furniture Fair 2005.
+MODO is characterised by the novel presentation of open and closed functional areas: Pensi places pull-out trays, running on concealed guide rails and equipped with the +MOTION® easy-closing mechanism, directly below the worktop, thus opening up the previously enclosed base unit space. The trays can be used as open, tray-style pull-outs. A clear glass top can be added to turn them into pull-out display cabinets where china, saucepans and utensils can be presented to best effect.
Opening up the base unit space below the very solid-looking, 13 cm thick worktop creates a new transparency and lightness, as well as strongly emphasizing the horizontals. This effect is heightened by the atmospheric lighting concept used in PLUSMODO. In the wall unit area, illuminated shelves made from satinised sheets of glass give everyday utensils the status of glittering design objects. Vertical lighting elements in the appliance space also provide efficient illumination of the working area, putting the finishing touch to the architecture of the kitchen scene.
+MODO also features the use of new materials. The lacquered sliding doors in the wall units and tall units are made from ten-millimetre thick aluminium honeycomb. Another innovation is the use
of elm for the fronts, a variety of wood selected for exclusive interior furnishing. Along with lacquered fronts in titanium grey, the two new front colours available are mineral white and aqua blue. The worktops (laminate and granite) feature a lightweight PET honeycomb substructure to improve the static equilibrium and facilitate handling.
+MODO has received the following design awards:
"New Classics" from “Schöner Wohnen” magazine, 2005
Good Design Award 2005 (Chicago Athenaeum Museum)
iF Product Design Award 2006 (iF International Forum Design GmbH Hanover)

Nominated for the "Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2007"
