Concept

As part of the London Design Festival at designjunction, the Crafts Council’s pop-up cinema will preview film-based works from the forthcoming exhibition Real to Reel.
All of the films are concerned with craft and design thematically, technically or materially and represent the best examples of makers and designers whose output is both three-dimensional – working with materials such as clay, textile, glass, metal and paper– and film-based.
Each of the films in Real to Reel immerses us in new environments and provides a different experience of craft.

designjunction Film Programme:
Three thematic film programmes will be shown at designjunction as well as a screening of new work, at the times detailed below:

PERFORMATIVE MAKING
What unites the films in this programme is that they engage with craft and design processes, materials and ideas through performance, whilst also being conceived with the intent that the recorded performance, often edited, is the final work.

The 56 minute film reel will be shown on a loop:
1. Woven Song, Glithero, 10’10”
2. Imago, Patricia Niemann, 5’12”
3. Designs for an overpopulated planet: No.1, Foragers, Dunne and Raby, 2’52”
4. Flames and Frequencies: performance for glass percussion and fire, Carrie Fertig, 11’45”
5. Bad Things That Could Happen, This Is It, 5’09”
6. Teatime at the Museum, David Cushway, 19’36”
