MATE 2012 e MATE BI-COLOUR
Designed by Robin Rizzini, Mate is a system of sofas and sectionals that can take on different configurations, compose corner or curvilinear solutions, and add chaise longues or peninsulas in various sizes and shapes.
To accentuate the character, dynamic nature and modern style of these seatings, MDF Italia’s design centre has skilfully played with colour to present in Cologne a more captivating version with an “everyday” style. Mate Bi-Colour is the version with two-tone upholstery - melange fabric on the seat, placed next to a solid-colour fabric on the backrest and armrests - in five different colour schemes. Another visual element introduced in this latest version is the new simple topstitching with profile which highlights the armrests on the end, corner and special elements.
The great versatility of this system, the introduction of two-tone upholstery and the enhanced comfort of the seat (Mate 2012) creates different atmospheres: dynamic and flexible for those who like to change the atmosphere in the home easily, informal and lively for the younger set, comfortable and relaxing for people who experience the living area as a warm, friendly place for entertaining and relaxing.
In solid wood and elastic belts.
Filling in indeformable variable-density polyether and down, or in polyester wadding. The version in polyester wadding distinguishes itself for a more formal rigour and for a considerable price reduction, still maintaining the same level of comfort and quality.
The upholstery covers every part of the sofa and is completely removable. The new top stitched seam highlights the arms in the end /corner and special units.
Mate is an English word of various meanings, two of which are strongly tied to the ‘Mate’ sofa system.
‘Mate’ is a friend, a partner, a colleague, therefore be together, conversate, work, read, play, listen to music.
The sofa today, thanks also to the reduced size of common objects like laptop computers and the constant growth of domestic employment of wireless networks, has today a multifunctional central role. No longer a place exclusively destined to receive guests, the sofa becomes the core of the house, enters the bedroom, communicates with the kitchen, it’s lived by the family or the individual in every moment of the day. These considerations gave me the chance to work on this typology of sofa, reinterpretating it while having in perspective first of all it’s contemporary living and comfort.
‘Mating’ also means combining one or more elements together.
Thanks to the compatibility of the various elements – linear modules, angular modules, chaise longues, pouf, low elements – Mate offers multiple compositing possibilities, functional and spatial, resulting in an extremely flexible system capable of meeting the diverse needs of dynamic and constantly evolving life styles. The presence of low linear or ‘L’ shaped elements, the possibility to have on-tops, accessories and special elements, opens to new compositions where the actions of listening, conversating, reading or simply being together are seamless part of a contemporary context, meeting the needs of the individual or the family.
