Dedicated to Marcel Bardiaux, the first solo yachtsman to sail round Cape Horn, the Marcel project is a modular sofa made entirely of steel which evokes a parapet overlooking an imaginary ocean, a balcony on which to lean and comfortably scan the horizon, not only an inviting barrier, but also a picture frame on the outside world.

The sofa, Marcel, consists of 90x90cm modular parts. The common base for all the corner and central modules is made of steel tubing and the cushioned seating area is made of moulded sheet metal. Both the corner and central module backrests are screwed to the base via laser-cut steel side supports, connected to each other by steel tubes of varying diameter and with cone-shaped ends. The backrests are fastened so that each part is linked and a joint connects them to the base.
Marcel has just three parts (base, curved backrest and straight backrest) which enable an infinite number of combinations to be made to create long sofas, islands or corner sofas. The seating and backrest cushions are made from the new, EMU, Soft Ware, Tempotest fabrics.The backrest is also available with a cushion, which can be fastened to the structure to avoid any movement and to make it more comfortable for contract use as well.
