Magenta 2 upholstery fabric by Kvadrat

Soft and dimensionally stable. Precise and tight fitting. Classic weave in worsted wool. Abundant colour range created by the colour expert Finn Sködt. This sounds like the typical Kvadrat classic. And that is exactly what Magenta was from the very beginning as this fabric was chosen by leading international furniture manufacturers and is represented on furniture all over the world. The object for Kvadrat was to create a new plain upholstery quality. This resulted in Magenta which is woven in a classic rep binding in worsted wool, strengthened by the addition of 6% nylon which gives improved abrasion results and makes the fabric well suited for all kinds of contract use.

The colour palette, which now comprises 35 colours (21 new colours and 14 from the old collection) was created by painter and graphic artist Finn Sködt, literally from scratch, because each individual colour was applied as strokes of art paint and then adjusted to achieve the desired effect. Back to basics!

Magenta is the name of a relatively new pigment at the purple end of the colour spectrum, developed in a French laboratory in 1859 - the same year that the French won a battle with the Austrians in the town of Magenta in the north of Italy. Together with cyan and yellow, magenta is one of the base colours of the “subtractive colour mixing” principle behind colour reproduction, which in a way symbolises all colours. If any single colour had to be chosen to symbolise the concept of colour, it would have to be Magenta. The quality is equally suitable for classic as well as top modern furniture thanks to the large range of colours, which emphasizes the precise and tight expression of the fabric.
