HAL was conceived of as an all-purpose chair programme fulfilling a whole host of different requirements in an appropriate and contemporary way. A large selection of bases, colours and optional seat covers can be combined with the flexible and comfortable plastic seat shell.
With his “Super Normal” design philosophy, Jasper Morrison focuses on needs fulfilment, suitability for daily use and durability, and stands opposed to short-lived formal extravagance. “Super Normal” is at the same time a leitmotif for Morrison’s long-standing partnership with Vitra – now manifested in the HAL family of shell- design chairs.
HAL’s body-conscious seat shell made of moulded plastic ensures a high level of comfort and promotes dynamic sitting due to its supreme flexibility and ability to accommodate numerous sitting positions. Comfort level and variety can be increased with a fabric cover, which attaches by two fabric straps, making it easy to remove again – for a change of decor or for cleaning.
Depending on intended use and personal taste, the shell can be combined with different bases: In addition to two stackable tubular steel bases, there is also a version with wooden legs, giving the chair a distinctly homely feel, a version with a cantilever base with or without armrests and two barstools of varying heights.
Its numerous possibilities for functional and aesthetic configuration make HAL a universal chair that looks fantastic in private homes as well as in public and semi- public spaces, including restaurants, stores, offices, professional practices and studios – and that can also be used outdoors in versions with coated bases.
HAL meets all relevant safety standards, is robust and easy to clean. At the end of its long lifecycle, it can be broken down, sorted and recycled.
