This is Håkon – Lustrous and Glossy
A royal name and a royal fabric. Luxurious, elegant, opulent and at the same time contemporary, the challenge to make a revival of the well known mohair velours. The decision was to make a new construction with very tight, short loops cut in to a short pile. A pile without a direction, this should make it easy to upholster. To use a strong and shiny yarn having an excellent durability and a brilliant look. Due to this we selected to use the elegant mohair wool, the lustrous, silky white hair from the Angora goat. Håkon is woven with two beams, one with a cotton warp to make it smooth and one with the loops making the pile in mohair. The construction is a typical velour binding called a V-binding. The density of the loops is very high and the hairs are cut short. To dye the mohair fibres in the best way and to get the right depth and a flat surface of the fabric it is piece dyed.
Håkon has a very contemporary colour range bringing it far away from the old fashioned and dusty mohair velours from former times. It also matches very well with many fabrics in the rest of the collection, such as Snorre, Freyja, Sigrid, Björg, Oda, Kayja and Frigg. Håkon is a Norwegian name and many Norwegian kings have carried the name in the last 1000 years.
