Born from a poetic reflection about nights on Italian beaches. Genova, is a scultrual lamp and an homage to one of the most important port cities in Italy.
The transparency of the glass, that evokes the light of the sky, traps the light inside and allows it to diffuse its flux on the sand, right where the crystal structure is erected.
An emotional light that gives shape to the glass structure, gently diffuses on the sand of the base. Just like a moon beam, during the clearest nights, caresses the Italian beaches.
Genova is a unique lamp in its genre, and is the outcome of an experiment that pushed a technique to its limits.
The glass cone that consitutes it, is taller than 1.2m (4 feet) and is made of Murano glass blown in a mold by a skilled master glass blower. Despite its simplicity this cone represents one of the largest Murano glass blown pieces using this technique.
This pushed the expertise of the master Murano craftsmen to their limit, and required a specialized scaffold, creative flair and a very unique and complex set of skills to craft it.
The outside of the glass cone is perfectly smooth thanks to the mold, while on the inside the surface is wavy, intentionally created by the master glass blower. These slight details can only be created by blowing a piece in the mold, to enhance the product with fine details, which are only noticeable once the light runs through the geometry of the cone.
The base of the lamp holds a very fine and natural sand that works as a light diffuser. It is made of Botticino marble with a Pietra Serena ring insert and can be customized for a client’s requests.
