Order and chance in perfect harmony. With her new creation for de Sede, the elegant DS-40 sofa, designer Antonella Scarpitta has succeeded in using contradictory design elements to develop a perfectly-proportioned new model with a very special appeal. This cubic sofa uses a design vernacular dominated by straight lines and surfaces that are relieved by the subtle inclusion of rounded elements. Armrests running all the way to the back emphasise the generosity of the one-piece seat cushion. Narrow inset leather strips, positioned seemingly at random on the seating surface, represent a playful re-interpretation of a classic upholstery technique. This tufting makes the cushioning at the same time both elegant and casual, which gives the sofa an airy, buoyant look. Loose back cushions guarantee a high level of comfort, while individually adjustable backrests ensure snug relaxing over long periods. The sofa sits on a smart wooden frame in American walnut, natural oak with a semi-matt finish or nero-stained oak. The frame and legs are also available in a chrome-plated version on request. The DS-40 is offered as a 2-seater, 2.5-seater, 3-seater and as an armchair.
