Research into the relationship between light and communication points towards the need to combine lighting with objects that provide us with information (a computer, clock, radio, iPod and so on).
Spaces dedicated to work and reading, either at home or in the office are micro- lighting environments, all requiring different treatments because of the diversity of uses we put them to: writing, reading, listening to music, using the computer, to name just a few.
Diva, designed by Dante Donegani and Giovanni Lauda, is a LED light and music system specifically designed for your iPod or iPhone. Dressed in elegant metal, Diva combines multiple functions in one light, compact object, eliminating clutter and stealing the scene no matter where you place it. The anodised, screen printed aluminium jacket makes Diva a mysterious musical instrument, which only reveals its many functions when open. But even when closed, it’s an FM radio and speaker system for a connected computer, mp3 or CD player. The sound quality is full and rich, thanks to the four, high quality speakers housed in its body.
These (aluminium domes with neodymium magnets of 6watts per channel) are particularly sensitive to high frequencies to guarantee extremely bright top notes without sacrificing bass quality. In addition, dedicated software optimises equalisers and sound compressors, to produce a rich, crystal clear sound. Insert your iPod or iPhone by releasing the retractable docking station drawer. Apple’s universal housing takes all standard 30 pin connector models. Pressing a button opens up the die-cast aluminium lamp arm. Raise this to whatever position is most comfortable to read by or to light your workstation. The lamp’s cutting edge LED light is warm, highly effective and energy efficient at 4.5w.
There’s a digital screen which is hidden behind the anodised aluminium, to show the time and all the other information about Diva’s various uses and FM stations. An infrared Remote Control governs every function, including your iPod and the radio. The back of Diva comes with various sockets: AUX takes a mini jack for playing music from other equipment, such as an mp3 or portable CD player, a computer; USB allows you to play audio files stored on your USB key or other compatible equipment, and another socket allows for the connection of additional loudspeakers.
