Coalesse, the leader in solutions designed for the fluid intersection of work and life, is proud to preview the new Carbon Fiber Chair at Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2014 in Milan. Made entirely of carbon fiber, one of the strongest and lightest materials available in today’s world of engineering and design, the Carbon Fiber Chair combines mate- riality with technology to express its structural form and 21st century craft.
Designed by Hong Kong based designer Michael Young, the Carbon Fiber Chair combines ultra-lightness with exceptional performance: the chair weighs less than 2.3kg (5lb) and can support 136kg (300lb). The unique material allows for an array of colors and bespoke surfaces applications. Its endless mono-material design is adaptable to both for indoor and outdoor settings.
As Michael Young states: “The chair’s structure and form was developed as a result of working with a factory that is exceptional in creating high performance bicycles. This technology is ideal for applying to the development of an exceedingly lightweight stacking chair. We wanted to design a carbon fiber chair that is truly functional and ergonomic. The material is used economically and has been designed following rigorous technical guidelines.”
John Hamilton, Director Global Design at Coalesse, explains: “When we started this project, we wanted to explore the boundaries of using cutting edge technology and materials to redefine craft in the new age of global manufacturing. Working with world class design talent and the world’s best carbon fiber craftsmen, we created a solution of lasting value that completely changes how you think about this type of chair.”
The Carbon Fiber Chair is a four legged chair and stacks up to four high.
