Blur is a study in architectural invisibility. Through hinting at disappearance, the designer questions the relationship between object and background. By using a change in density the observer’s perception of the true size of the piece becomes uncertain, a device for invisibility made possible by a new fabric production technique. The design is the pretext for the manufacture of a new jacquard fabric which, when used to upholster a three-dimensional object, confuses the perception, annulling the relationship between the space and the object.
Flame-retardant polyurethane foam over internal structure wood. The covering is a technical elastic fabric, with Jaquard processing for color grading. The textile project is also done by Marc Thorpe.
