Bay | Chair
A new type of chair for teamwork, meetings, informal get-togethers and temporary focused work. The Bay Chair adapts automatically to changing users, thereby accommodating flexible work strategies. Its soft design brings a human touch to the office. Pull into the Bay – for an informal meeting or temporary touch down.
The dynamics of the office is at a tipping point: Mobile knowledge workers using mobile communication technologies, often away from fixed workstations; the increasing use of touch-down and informal teamwork areas; the adoption of flexible working; collaborative activities creating flatter management hierarchies - all of these factors reduce the need for an over-engineered task chair. The days of personal ownership and chair as status symbol are on the way out. Designed by PearsonLloyd, Bene is introducing the Bay Chair as a response to these changes, recognizing that areas for teamwork and collaboration in open-plan and mid-zone areas are gaining greater importance.
A new chair typology for Collaboration and Sharing
The Bay chair is a hybrid between a task chair and a more informal meeting-cum-collaboration style of seating, facilitating flexible working strategies by enhancing light work possibilities. It is ideal for numerous informal situations where users enjoy freedom of movement and relaxed posture, whether for reading, touch-down laptop work, making a call away from the desk or team work bench style. It is equally suited to different types of informal meetings such as gathering around a table for a break-out discussion. Some aspects of the Bay Chair design draw on a soft domestic styling, however the Bay chair is determinedly for the workplace, professional leisure and educational environments whilst adding a touch of humanity. It reflects the attitude of today’s workers who blur distinctions between work-life and home-life. The designers deliberately rejected the traditional ‘machine-like’ aesthetic , replacing that with a simple form that incorporates intuitive height adjustment and an automatic weight adaption for back-rest counter pressure that encourages sharing. The result is a new chair typology for collaboration and sharing, which is not only comfortable, adaptable and versatile but also makes a confident visual statement.
Soft styling with human touch
According to Tom Lloyd of PearsonLloyd, “there is a hybrid space going on where you can have a softer approach aesthetically in the back office and you can also draw more work functions into the mid zone. The Bay chair is a response to this new characteristic.”
The Bay Chair is available as a 4-leg chair with castors or glides. A wide array of design possibilities with fabric, leather and colours from the Bene Spectrum are available. The bottom side of the Bay Chair comes in two colours: off-white or dark grey.
