Architec Dry – the clever way of saving water
Duravit presents a new dry urinal
Drinking water is one of our most valuable resources. At Duravit, we take an active responsibility for the conscious use of water and the development of sustainable product concepts to conserve our ecosystem. This applies in particular to flushing both toilets and urinals. With high usage of some 150 flushes per day, the average amount of water consumed by a urinal is up to 130,000 litres per year. With the new generation of Architec urinals, Duravit is making an important contribution to saving water intelligently. Thanks to a hose membrane integrated in the outlet, Architec Dry flushes without any water whatsoever. This membrane only opens when urine flows through. It then closes again and keeps unpleasant sewer odours at bay.
The Architec Dry outlet is fitted with an attractive cover with a ring of gel on the underside.
This gel is based on purely organic substances that are gradually flushed away during use and wet the membrane. A special mix of pH neutral and active cleaning ingredients fights stubborn dirt and urine scale before it gains a hold. Microorganisms break down organic substances and prevent the formation of unpleasant odours. In addition, the ring contains essential oils that release a fresh fragrance to create a pleasant interior environment. The green gel also acts as an indicator. When it has been used up, the module has to be replaced. The dry urinal is also optionally available without a cover.
Architect Dry is operated without any water pipes, tap fittings or flushing water whatsoever. Architec Dry is thus a cost-effective alternative to urinals with a conventional flush. The outlet with membrane only has to be replaced after about 7,500 uses. Up until this point, the new dry urinal has already saved 20,000 litres of water. Maintenance itself couldn’t be easier: a key supplied with the urinal is used to remove the old hose membrane from the fitting and to insert the new module. The ceramic can be cleaned very easily with a special hygienic cleaning agent and cloth.
Versatile for renovation work
The urinals in Duravit's Architec range were designed by Frank Huster. The urinal in his design springs from the centre of a rectangular wall-mounted object. This distinctive design language is not only in clear contrast to conventional urinal forms but also offers marked installation advantages. The lip is at the normal height of 70 cm above the floor but the generously proportioned 38 x 66.5 cm back of the urinal extends much lower than the standard dimensions. This means that Architec Dry can also be adapted to existing inlet and outlet holes from earlier plumbing. The ceramic hides the traces of the old system behind a hygienic white façade and offers great flexibility in modernisation and renovation projects. Whatever was there before, Architec offers the perfect replacement.
