The African House carpet provides a link to the earth, the source of life. Its story begins with the fascinating murals painted by the South African Besotho tribe on the outside walls of their houses. The women decorate the adobe walls of their homes with vegetable and floral ornamentation, inventing wonderful allegorical motifs. They are the artistic expression of their prayers to their ancestors, from whom they implore plenty of rain, sun and peace for their village. The African House collection brings us closer to the cultural symbolism of these native peoples, bringing their original, exterior ornamentations into our houses. The wool carpet’s relief reproduces the feel of their houses’ mud walls. The collection’s ochre, earth and sand tones connect it to the ground and Besotho's ancestral roots.
