Executive swivel chairs

The executive swivel chair is an object of representation, as well as a dutiful servant, combining the best in design and comfort. Although the selection is not as expansive as other task chairs, it features a wide range of products, from traditional to contemporary and from austere to relaxed.

Old world luxury and traditional aesthetic are combined in ‘Duke’ swivel chair, a plush chesterfield mounted on a wooden castor base, manufactured by the British firm Fleming & Howland. ‘Oxford’ swivel chair by Poltrona Frau is slightly more pared-down, but still a traditional, leather-upholstered design.

Modern swivel chairs include classics, such as Charles and Ray Eames’ ‘Soft Pad Group EA 219’ for Vitra. Its elegant frame is identical to the Aluminium Group series, but the seat comprises leather-upholstered pads. ‘Oxford™’ swivel chair is another midcentury icon, designed by the Danish minimalist architect Arne Jacobsen and manufactured by Fritz Hansen. It features an elegant aluminium base, a thin, tall, upholstered seat and matching armrests.

Striving for a minimal look, Lievore Altherr Molina’s ‘Catifa 60 | 2104/2106’ for Arper has a seat shell that readily embraces the human body. ‘Nesi’ swivel chair by ULTOM ITALIA resembles a classic, segmented, modern lounge chair, its plump upholstery held in a shell of wooden veneer.

Some swivel chairs are inspired by the rigorous study of ergonomics. Fritz Močnik’s ‘LEZGO’ for LÖFFLER has an ergonomically formed, formally restrained seat and backrest mounted on an adjustable castor base. This swivel chairs also comes with an optional, cylindrical headrest. On the other hand, Wolfgang C.R. Mezger’s ‘Agitus’ for Senator, proudly leaves all of its mechanisms exposed.

Balancing somewhere in between, Giovanni Baccolini’s ‘Link Plus’ swivel chair for Ares Line features restrained detailing and a luxurious chrome finish on its structure. Finally, Volker Eysing’s ‘Sitagego Swivel chair’ for Sitag is designed to give optimal support to the spine by spanning a mesh membrane between supporting, structural ribs of the chair, creating the swivel chair’s iconic silhouette.
