Who we are
MDF Italia Srl is a Milan-based company manufacturing furniture and furnishings, present in 40 countries and in the most important cities in the world.
The company was taken over by Bruno Fattorini in 1992, and immediately started to implement innovative and dynamic business and product strategies.
Innovation, internationalisation and identity are the main features of the MDF Italia's company culture.
Efficiency, manufacturing quality and identity are the strong points underlying the entrepreneurial success and competitiveness of the MDF Italia collection.
The Design
Bruno Fattorini is the designer and art director around whom the research and the cultural and aesthetic philosophy of the company revolve. In a short lapse of time, an important collection of bookshelves, wall-hung furniture, tables, beds, sofas and complementary items has been created. The decisive choice to orientate developments towards precise life-styles is the leitmotiv of the whole MDF Italia collection, emphasizing its strong identity. The overall result leads to a series of products which can be used in a variety of ways and can combine pleasingly with other materials. The neutrality of aluminium, the strength of wood, the integration with colors and soft and sharp shapes give rise to different solutions of strong impact. Precision, method, cultural simplicity together with the continuous and intelligent strive to be updated make up the identity of the collection.
"Evidence" of the creative maturity and intelligent curiosity underlying research activities, and of the aesthetic purity in design, is particularly visible in some of the most successful products: Bookcase, Lim, Minima, Newcase, Lowboard, Allen, Aluminium Cabinets, La Grande Table.Indeed, "Minima" obtained a "Special mention" in the Compasso d'Oro 1998 ADI competition (by Bruno Fattorini).
Since 2000 the following designers have been collaborating with MDF Italia in the creation and development of new concepts and designs:
Ennio Arosio, Francesco Bettoni, Sergio Brioschi, Piergiorgio Cazzaniga, Donato D’Urbino & Paolo Lomazzi, For Use, Georg Kobusch, Xavier Lust, Maiocchi - Pellegrini, Maurizio Manzoni - Roberto Tapinassi, Emilio Nanni, Tobie Snowdowne, Patricia Urquiola.
Simplicity and Minimalism
"Simplicity is a philosophy which can be applied to almost anything in life". By removing what is not essential, objects can be more linear, better and stronger. The result of this difficult task of subtraction is so intense that one realizes it is due precisely to the amount and the nature of what has been taken away. The object is thus the end result of removing what is not essential. Removing the superfluous in order to emphasize what is really important, and leaving the "minimum". The end result of this continuous work of research can only be a hard-to-reach but dynamic balance between the tension of subtraction and the need to add only what is essential to produce not an élitist object, but one that "makes sense", both culturally and intellectually speaking. Also for this reason MDF Italia does not want to be known as "minimalist".
Research and development
Every product of the MDF Italia collection is the result of constant research to obtain top quality furniture and finishings. The company philosophy invades every aspect of the production cycle, from the choice of the materials used and the technological and technical solutions and processes adopted, to the standards of quality declared - which are pursued to the last detail.
To MDF Italia this means to make every product of the collection in the best possible way, and to think positively about the ability to provide suitable solutions in the world of living and about products characterized by an extraordinary dignity made up of simplification, discreet presence, formal precision and harmony.
Quality and Technology
MDF Italia directly manufactures the items it designs by means of external industrial collaborations. Together with the main suppliers, a research and experimentation programme has long been underway, focusing on the use and production of innovative, eco-friendly materials that are compatible with the quality and safety standards required. This particular form of production and collaboration, combining craftsmanship with a production of industrial level, has allowed MDF Italia to attain that qualitative efficiency and production flexibility underlying its business success.
The work done and the research carried out by the designers that collaborate with MDF Italia and by Bruno Fattorini have resulted in innovative technological solutions, in design patents, in patents of industrial innovation and for multiple ornamental designs. All products of the MDF Italia collection undergo further tests and trials directly in the Milan showroom before being put on sale.
