LinBrasil About

In 1999 Sergio Rodrigues’ furniture was no longer being produced; it could not be found in design stores in Brazil or anywhere in the world. During the exhibition “The History of the Brazilian Chair” in Rio de Janeiro, businesswoman Gisèle Pereira Schwartsbud recognized an important opportunity to bring back the Sergio Rodrigues line of furniture making this contemporary Brazilian furniture available in Brazil and internationally.

Gisèle’s family had been in the furniture business for over 35 years, both manufacturing and selling top quality furniture. She contacted Sergio Rodrigues who then gave her company LinBrasil an exclusive license to sell his creations.

LinBrasil was founded in 2001 in Curitiba, the largest city in southern Brazil. In line with a worldwide trend of product design companies, LinBrasil is not a factory, it outsources the production of Sergio Rodrigues’s furniture making sure that the pieces are manufactured in strict accordance with the unique features that have brought international recognition to this master of Brazilian design: superb craftsmanship in solid wood, perfection in the curve lines and a precision fit.

LinBrasil now reproduces 28 different pieces by Sergio Rodrigues, including his most widely known “Poltrona Mole” (“Sheriff Chair”). These products can be found in New York and in 14 different Brazilian cities. Soon they will also be available in Europe. Through a carefully planned business strategy, the company establishes partnerships with stores to meet its growing international demand while adhering to strict quality standards.

LinBrasil has formed partnerships with small furniture factories in southern Brazil, all of which are carefully selected, trained, qualified and certified. The furniture is handcrafted, offering the finest craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation of European immigrants populating the region since the late 19th and early 20th century.

To conserve the original features of Sergio Rodrigues’s furniture, LinBrasil uses mature Eucalyptus, a perfect substitute for Brazil’s native woods. LinBrasil enforces social responsibility policies, creating hundreds of direct and indirect jobs while preserving the century-old tradition and craftsmanship of Brazilian woodworkers.

“Our goal is to immortalize the genius of Sergio Rodrigues, bringing a taste of Brazilian culture and warmth to homes worldwide”, says Gisèle Pereira Schwartsbud.
