BRAND VAN EGMOND® was founded in 1989 by two independent artists, William Brand and Annet van Egmond, with the sole intention of creating art without constraints and until today they still lead their studio.
William Brand (Alphen, 1963) and Annet van Egmond (Leiden, 1964) met at the Utrecht School of Arts in The Netherlands. Both graduated there; William as an architect and Annet as a sculptor. They are two pioneering artists, with a passion for objects and design.
Autonomy remains at the very core of their artistic and personal existence. A mix of affection for craftsmanship, love of experimenting with new materials and techniques and respect for times gone by result in innovative designs by their hand. This results in yearly launches of new collections. Their handcrafted lighting sculptures radiate passion and emotion, and leave a longlasting impression.
From an improvised workshop at the house of Annet’s parents the very first lighting sculptures were produced. Their very first design, the ‘Chandelier’, became an instant hit in 1989, and propelled them on the world stage. By now BRAND VAN EGMOND design travels from their headquarters in The Netherlands to all corners of the world: from New York to Moscow, and from Beirut to Tokyo. Their handcrafted objects are appreciated by a clientele ranging from Royals to Rappers.
Many companies apply BRAND VAN EGMOND design. Numerous hotel chains, including the Four Seasons, W Hotels, and Okura, have their signature handmade lighting sculptures in their lobbies, spas and Royal suites. Brands like Louis Vuitton, Chopard and Neuhaus have invited BRAND VAN EGMOND to create the very best lighting objects for their retail spaces. Many lounges, bars and private clubs have also used their work.
BRAND VAN EGMOND is not a lighting manufacturer but a fully fledged Design Studio with several ateliers. In this studio, the team develops also products for external companies. Besides designing lighting sculptures, William also works on architectural and interior projects while Annet also designs wall coverings, jewellery and carpets.
Every BRAND VAN EGMOND object is handmade and unique. Besides our regular collection we frequently produce Haute Couture objects for clients with specific requests. In association with architects and private clients around the globe we use our knowledge and experience to translate these wishes into handcrafted reality.
