softwall is a freestanding partition that can be expanded and contracted to freely shape intimate space within larger open space. softwalls can be fanned open to just over 5000mm (16.5’) in length, or smaller dimensions as desired, due to the flexible nature of the structure. For efficient storage and shipping, softwall can be compressed in “length” to a remarkably small dimension of less than 50mm (2”) and then folded in half like a blanket! softwall is available in standard and custom heights of up to 3050mm (10’) tall. softwalls are available in paper and textile variations, in translucent white and opaque black. The cellular honeycomb structure of softwall also serves to dampen sound. Recognized for its poetic and pragmatic beauty and innovation, softwall has been acquired by the MoMA in New York for their permanent collection. molo was selected as a winner of the International INDEX:Award 2005, hosted by Denmark, for softwall and the evolving concepts of soft.

textile softwall expands from the thickness of a book to form a beautiful, translucent white, or opaque inky black freestanding wall. It is made from a highly durable polyethylene non-woven textile which is tear and water resistant. The 1830mm (6') tall textile softwall can be expanded up to 6000mm (20') long and the taller textile softwalls of 2285mm (7.5'), 2440mm (8'), and custom heights up to 3050mm (10') can be expanded to a length of 4876mm (16'). textile softwall can transform a space by creating a dynamic partition or sculptural backdrop and easily be rearranged to adapt a space for changes in use.

In a setting with typical ceiling heights, the 1830mm textile softwall creates a feeling of privacy, while still maintaining a sense of openness, whereas the taller softwalls create the sense of fuller partition. The taller softwalls also have the scale to be used in larger, open spaces to create a formidable backdrop with an increased physical presence.

The white version of textile softwall is translucent when backlit with natural or electric light, and a luminous, delicate visual effect is created by the fine fibres of the material. The newly available black textile softwall is the opposite. It is opaque and blocks out all light, accentuating the shadows in the vertical pattern of the softwall’s layers. The black textile softwall has been dyed with bamboo charcoal ink although the subtle details of its fine fibres remain apparent. textile softwall has a paper-like feeling about it, yet is exceptionally tear-resistant and water-resistant, is easy to handle and maintain, and can be wiped down with a damp cloth.

textile softwall has the durability for a long lifespan, but perhaps even more important to its longevity is its capacity for flexible use to accommodate changing needs and desires over time. The material and adhesives used are non-toxic, and while it is designed to last a lifetime, the textile material and natural wool felt ends are reusable and recyclable.

textile softwall has a “Class A” fire rating in terms of flame spread and smoke developed, as tested under ASTM E84-05 (Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Materials – 2005 Edition). Nevertheless, textile softwall should always be kept clear of any open flame or heat source. A copy of the certificate of “Class A” fire rating is available upon request.
