This lamp owes its name ("without" in Spanish) to all that it does without.
We depart from the traditional concept of a central light source which expresses its luminosity filtered by a surrounding, structural shade, to have a circular series of LEDs inserted in a ring, on which a shade may or may not be suspended, vertically bathed by the light. It is not a central axis, but rather a luminous, bare or adorned, circle.
Sitting at his work desk, surrounded by his objets trouvés, his books, his light, Antoni Arola reveals to us in this interview how he tackles the process of creating a lamp, the path that he follows to pass from the original idea to a lighting object in its own right. He talks about his way of looking, about his way of making
about how you need to look to see what is not there. And about his eagerness to achieve his objective in each project: to domesticate light, to bring it closer to us, to find the archetype which transforms it into something universal and timeless.
