Ann Idstein has a special relationship to this simple yet brilliant product. In the mid 1970’s, a young Ann Idstein started exporting coloured roller blinds to the German market, creating somewhat of an outrage there. At the time, colours and patterns where rare on the German market and the sudden input of playful Scandinavian fabrics struck the market with surprise. Within less than a year, Ann Idstein’s Roller Blinds where distributed all over Germany, by that time carrying the name Schwedenrollos.
The principle of the Roller Blind is obviously that of a roll. A clear benefit to be drawn from that design is that the product is very compact when rolled up. Ann Idstein offers spring-, chain command- and motorized roller blinds. All types can be fitted to a wall or ceiling. Fabrics range from transparent to black out and there are numerous types of fittings and extras that can add an individual touch to the roller blind.
Depending on the width of the Roller Blind, the tube diameter is changed in order to guarantee stability. Smaller blinds rely on a 30mm tube, whereas the widest ones are produced with a 70mm tube.

The spring roller blind has, as the name suggests, a spring integrated in the tube that the fabric is attached to. This means that by pulling the blind down distinctly, it will snap out of position and the spring will start retracting. Due to the spring action, there is no need for a chain or cord at the sides of the blind. Ann Idstein offers Roller Blinds with a classic spring without speed reduction, spring load with partial speed reduction and also a type which has such strong speed reduction that the user can release the blind once it has begun rolling up. The control can be had in many shapes. The standard type is a cord with a wooden ball; other types include a leather strap or a wooden slat at the bottom of the fabric.

The chain command roller blind is also operated by hand. At the outer edge of the blind, a bead chain is placed on which one pulls the blind in either direction. The chain and the fittings can be ordered in white, light beige or grey plastic as well as in steel. At the bottom edge of the blind, decoration elements such as a round aluminium profile or wooden slat can be placed. Ann Idstein can manufacture Roller Blinds up to a width of approximately 4200mm.
