Patagónico di Santa & Cole

The Patagónico is a rectiliniar bench, without backrest, formed by a solid patagonian porphyr stone over a simple steel structure.

The Patagónico bench was designed by Diana Cabeza to investigate the possibilities of using porphyr stone as seating. The porphyr adds the bench the beauty and colours this elegant stone offers: pink, ochre, blue, and grey. Patagonic porphyr is a magmatic stone formed about 250 million years ago and it is named after its colour. At the beginning it was called purple stone. It was the distinctive stone of the highest jerarquies and simbolic places, chosen by pharaophs in the works that would remain for ages due to its resistance and purity. You can find porphyr in the tomb of the emperor Diocletian or in the baptismal font of the San Pedro Basilica in the Vatican.

The simple structure made of an industrial material offers the counterpoint to the seat and separates it in a subtle way from the pavement. This neutral and subtle structure of steel sections in L forms the frame and the legs of the bench. One of the main characteristics of Cabeza?s work is the simplicity and capacity to squeeze the beauty of natural materials and put it in contrast with common and industrial materials.

Diana Cabeza’s works usually recreate the environment she observes; her elements possess a rare aptitude to narrate and represent the local memory, the respect for the human being, the nature and the life.

Steel profiles structure with antirust protection and powered paint. Solid porphyry seat. The bench is delivered assembled, free standing on black polyamide fixed tips (it does not include fixing screws).
