KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD BRAND PROFILE
A new standard in Japanese furniture making
We are Karimoku, manufacturers of wood furniture from Central Japan, with a history of more than 70 years. Our tradition derives from a deep understanding of carpentry craftsmanship, combined with cutting-edge technologies to build furniture of the highest possible quality. Collaborating with some of the most promising international design talents, we launched KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD in 2009; a growing collection of innovative, joyful and functional objects that suit the ways of urban living in the 21st century. Aiming to preserve and revitalize Japanese forests and resume a balance with the local forest industry, our products are made of sustainably sourced Japanese hardwoods such as maple, chestnut and oak - low-diameter trees that are often discarded or ending up as paper pulp. KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD pieces are made to bring lasting joy, true to the company credo that a piece of furniture should last at least as long as the tree it was made from.
KARIMOKU FURNITURE INC. COMPANY PROFILE
Karimoku is one of Japan’s leading manufacturers of wooden furniture. Its history began as a small woodworking shop in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, in 1940, when the grandfather of the present owner family took over a timber company that had existed since the Edo Period. The company started as a subcontractor producing various wooden parts for e.g. yarn spinning machines, piano parts and TV stands. Finally, in the 1960s the company started to produce original furniture for the domestic Japanese market.
Ever since Karimoku has focused on the pursuit of its concept “high tech and high touch”, adopting the profound know-how gained over the years: working with the most skilled craftsmen while making use of the most advanced technologies. At the same time, Karimoku is trying to face environmental issues, searching for sustainable materials and saving natural resources ..
