Thonet furnishes the meeting and conference rooms at the Media Plaza of the 'Jaarbeurs' in Utrecht

The Jaarbeurs is one of the biggest trade fair sites in the Netherlands and is located in the centre of Utrecht. The architects 123DV from Rotterdam were responsible for the design and furnishing of all rooms. The themes of »Ice« and »Fire« give the Media Plaza a highly individual identity, with the themes applied to all the rooms by the use of colours, lighting, materials and form. The unique aspect of this project is that the lighting equipment enables each room to be immersed in a different colour environment, allowing its atmosphere and ambience to be individualised by the use of lighting effects. The colours were selected on the basis of colour psychology theory.

Thonet supplied a range of different chairs for this project. Each conference room has its own atmosphere, covering the thematic spectrum of steel, glass, driftwood and colour. The fabrics for the project were created by the interior designer Yvette Nebbeling from the firm of GoedYD in Barneveld. Various laminate materials from the Resopal collection and fabrics from the Kvadrat collection were selected for the project and used by Thonet in the production of the chairs. A total of 900 Thonet chairs will be used in the Media Plaza.

Almost all the conference rooms contain the S 840 model, designed in 2006 by LepperSchmidtSommerlade. This chair provides seating comfort at conferences, in lounge zones and in private homes. The conference tables are taken from the Thonet A 1700 programme. In addition the S 61 V is also used. This elegant and comfortable conference chair with chrome-plated runners was designed by Glen Oliver Löw.

The S 360, created by Delphin Design, appears in all the large and small conference rooms. This chair is suitable for stacking and has a simple connecting system which operates without additional linking elements. The S 360 SPF which is used is a version with a white, fully upholstered seat made of the Stamskin imitation leather and with a white plastic backrest.

The Media Plaza foundation was established in 1997 by the Netherlands government and other bodies with the aim of stimulating innovation. Media Plaza organises innovative interactive seminars, congresses, workshops, master classes and round tables. In addition Media Plaza also rents its facilities to external institutions.
