Architonic has been invited to partner up with Field Trip, Google’s location-experience app that alerts you to interesting stuff in your general vicinity. Smartphone users will now be able to locate the best architectural projects nearby – wherever they happen to be in the world – complete with detailed descriptions and beautiful photography.

Thanks to its partnership with Field Trip, Architonic can reach architecture fans from around the globe, letting them know when they are near selected building projects, open to the public, that are of architectural note

Curiosity killed the cat. But, for the rest of us, it’s what makes life interesting. Google have launched a new tool for anyone who wants to find out what’s around them – the Field Trip app. Available on Android since September 2012, but now also downloadable for iPhone, Field Trip has invited Architonic to join its trusted partners, providing high-quality, relevant content. Alongside interesting architectural projects, the app tells users where to find the most happening bars, restaurants and shops, as well as giving you information on museums, film, music and historical events, all thanks to its partnerships with leading magazines, publishers and blogs, such as Time Out and Cool Hunting.

Smartphone users not only get push notifications, telling them about exicting locations in their vicinity, they can search the map for themselves. They can also save their favourites

Architonic’s reach extends even further with Field Trip
Architonic, which sits in Field Trip’s architecture category, alongside the likes of Dezeen, Freshome, Mimoa and Architizer, helps you orient your way through the architectural landscape, providing you with details of carefully selected building projects that you’ll find round the corner (or round several corners) – all this on your smartphone and within the Field Trip app. Every building featured is open to the public and can be found, as a reference project, on architonic.com. Our partnership with Field Trip is a great opportunity for architect members of Architonic to have their work presented to an even greater audience of design fans.

Let Field Trip do the work
Unlike most travel and location apps, where you have to do the searching yourself, Field Trips sends you push notifications when you happen to be near an interesting location. You can decide how often you want to be notified – if at all. Likewise, you can set your preferences as to which content categories, and, indeed, which content partners interest you, thus tailoring your recommendations. Field Trip hasn’t been optimised for tablets yet, so is, at the moment, not ideal for this type of device.

Field Trip is a great companion when getting to grips with foreign cities, of course, but why not use it when you find yourself in new and unexplored places generally? Inspiration awaits.
