Restaurant Kungsholmen is an ambitious food court-style restaurant by the waterfront in central Stockholm run by one of Sweden's most well-known chefs, Melker Andersson. The layout creates a scenographic composition with the kitchen front acting as a backdrop to the central square and dining tables. After a fire in October 2009, the Swedish architectural firm SandellSandberg redesigned the restaurant and gave it an autumn glow with differently stained wooden ribs in the ceiling.

For this project one of the founders of SandellSandberg, Thomas Sandell, designed the chair King together with Offecct. King is both petite and has volume. The chair is perceived as having been formed in one piece, a counterweight to the Windsor chairs and tight chair models that are often found in restaurant and other meeting places. The design of King brings to mind a royal throne, and the chair has an open form to make it available. It is a freestanding thin chair at the same time as it has a big body.

King absorbs sound, which is a brand new innovation - there is nothing else like it on the market. Offecct are innovative and market leader when it comes to acoustic panels, but the integration of sound-absorbing elements in a piece of furniture is something completely new. King has an unusual design for restaurants, but it's perfect to absorb and reduce noise.

"When we designed the interior of Kungsholmen I wanted a chair that could create a unique environment in the room and give a homely feeling without taking up too much space. King was the result. The chair solves many of the problems we often encounter in public meeting environments. This makes it a product that really fulfills a purpose", describes Thomas Sandell.
