Bright vision

JSK Architekten have been involved in some spectacular projects, including the O2 World Arena in Berlin and the German capital’s new airport. For the new corporate headquarters of DEG, they developed a convertible roof that opens up when the weather is good allowing an unobstructed view of the sky. Since 2008, about 410 employees of DEG (a German investment and development corporation) have been working together in the new head office in downtown Cologne.

Firmly held in the striking concept of the five-storey sandstone façade at the ends, the glass fronts reveal the working world of the development finance specialists. Clear partitions inside mean light can get right to the heart of the building. Transparency and natural surfaces in warm colors reflect the holistic design approach apparent in both building and interior.

Interior designers Claudia de Bruyn and Uta Cossmann created a spacious entrée with inviting oval-shaped furnishings. Light colors for wood partitions and the woven carpet Eco by Carpet Concept in warm beige dominate the design and ensure a warm and friendly atmosphere. Glowing colors demarcate the different areas. Restaurants feature an agile orange and the spacious lounges between the offices feature eye-catching yellow touches. White and vibrant turquoise interact in the working and conference areas giving a sense of airiness. This promotes the everyday interaction of individual withdrawal into closed-off working areas for pure concentration and communicative openness in the shared areas.
