All the market leaders have confirmed that they will be taking part from 13 to 18 March: the exhibition centre will be full. “We’re delighted with the very positive response from exhibitors. It proves that Light + Building, with its combination of both design and technology, provides a true reflection of the entire sector, for which it is the ideal platform. We are anticipating great success for this leading world trade fair and are looking forward to seeing the highlights in the sector,” says Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Messe Frankfurt GmbH. Light + Building is at the cutting edge and addresses all the sector’s current issues: the focus is very much on trends in the lighting market and the influence of light on people, as well as on networked security technology, intelligent home and building automation and efficient energy management.

On the six days of the trade fair, some 2,500 exhibitors will be presenting all the sector's trends, which are also highlighted in the extensive complementary programme and discussed in depth in the informative specialist lectures. All this provides a perfect package to ensure that trade visitors get comprehensive information on the topics covered. In addition, the leading international trade fair provides a clear overview: it is subdivided into lighting, electric and electronic engineering and home and building automation. In these three areas, national and international exhibitors will be showcasing their products on 22 floors of our halls.

Perfect harmony of design and technology

The desire for more comfortable working and living conditions is greater than ever. The demand for energy efficiency, security and convenience is growing at the same time. The increasing networking and digitalisation of electrical and electronic installations allows users to find individual solutions to suit their particular needs. This important aspect is highlighted centre stage at Light + Building, with its combination of both design and technology. They go hand in hand and it is not until they are combined into an innovative and ground-breaking integrated system that they bring modern buildings to life.

The new special show, 'Digital Building', picks up on Light + Building’s motto, “Where modern spaces come to life” and puts flesh on the bones of the notion of “digital - individual -networked”, using examples of a variety of technical solutions. The focus of the special show is on functional buildings. 'Digital Building' provides models for the use of the technology as well as the systematically networked integration of the components. The latest developments in various different areas of building services engineering are to be presented on ‘technology islands’ as part of networked systems.

Digital control puts light centre stage: new dimensions in lighting design

With networked lighting control, not only do room lights come into their own, but various components such as the colour of light and dimmer facilities can also be exploited to the full. 'Human centric lighting', i.e. the impact of light on efficiency and well-being, is a ground-breaking topic here. The integration of light into the architecture at the planning stage is becoming a more and more important consideration: the creation of an individual look for lighting design in the planning of public spaces is very much the trend at the moment. Urban Lighting is all about both maximum energy efficiency and cost savings at one and the same time. Trade visitors will discover these and other trends, including those in the field of design, on the world’s largest stage for the lighting market: Light + Building.

Some 1,650 manufacturers in the lighting sector will be presenting designer lighting fixtures in styles ranging from modern to classic, all sorts and varieties of technical lights and lamps for all sorts of applications, lighting components and accessories. 'Bright Spots in the future' will be established in Halls 1 to 6 and 10 as well as in the Forum. This means that design enthusiasts, for instance, will find plenty of inspiration in Hall 1; Hall 3 will be showcasing new technical products; and in Hall 5, the focus will be on outdoor and street lighting. Manufacturers will be presenting decorative lights for the contract and residential sectors in Halls 5.1 and 6.1.

By involving all technical trades together, building automation plays a very important role: the increasing networking and digitalisation of electro-technical installations is enhancing the quality of life both at home and at work. At Light + Building, the industry will be showcasing solutions and technologies aimed at lower energy consumption and modern security requirements, as well as individual design options and a higher level of comfort and convenience.

Light + Building is impressive not only because of its wide product range but also because of its extensive complementary programme. At the upcoming event, the emphasis will be on Security Technology, Digital Building, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Smart Powered Building, as well as on the trends in the lighting market. There are areas of specific interest for all trade and professional visitors, including architects, engineers, planners, interior architects, designers, craftsmen and women, the retail trade and industry – from special shows to specialist lectures and trend presentations.
