At Orgatec 2010 Swiss office seating manufacturer Stoll Giroflex AG, Koblenz, launched its latest proprietary development, the giroflex 656 range of chairs. Five months later, the swivel chair from the series has been awarded the "red dot award" in the category "product design 2011".

A successful creation in every respect, in October last year the giroflex 656 chair series already won over the auditors of the EPEA (EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH) for its sustainable qualities, earning it the "Cradle to Cradle" certificate in "silver". In March 2011 representatives of this chair family scored again. The giroflex 656 office swivel chair was honoured with the "red dot" seal of quality for high design quality. The office chairs from Koblenz were evaluated under the aspects of design quality and new creative solutions. In the design world both criteria are considered an indicator of good design and the potential for success in the market.

The prestigious jury of the "red dot" team also paid tribute to the cantilever from the same series, giving it an "honourable mention". The design experts have thus recognised products that stand out with particularly successful detail solutions.

In 2011 designers and companies from 60 countries participated in the "red dot award: product design" with 4,433 products. The Koblenz office seating manufacturers are therefore particularly proud of their series, which was created in close cooperation with "greutmann bolzern designstudio" from Zurich. As CEO Dr Tobias Gerfin puts it: "An optimum combination of design and functionality results in a thoroughly successful product. While meeting all the requirements of a high-quality office swivel chair on the one hand, it is also impressive visually."

Design on stage
From 5 July to 1 August 2011 the winning products can be seen in the exhibition "Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011" at the Design Museum in Essen. On an area of more than 4,000 m2 the prestigious Design Museum at the Essen World Heritage site Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex has over 1,500 products on display, making it the world's largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design.

"red dot design award"
The "red dot design award" was established in 1955 and is now considered the largest and most prestigious design competition in the world. The "red dot award" covers three categories: product design, communication design and design concept.
