Topas upholstery fabric de Kvadrat

In the years after the launch of Topas, the fabric became one of the most utilised upholstery materials in the European contract retail market. And it’s still very popular. Topas is a variation of the monochrome in the form of a reintroduction of the classic crêpe binding. This binding creates an optical depth and an expression like the surface of a stone.

The 68 shades were created by painter and graphic designer Finn Sködt using his advanced understanding of colour setting and acknowledged capability in predicting new colours. With the highest ratio of wool per metre and an unsurpassed soft feeling to the touch, Topas has set the standard when it comes to qualities for crêpe. One of the places where Topas has been used is the new German Reichstag in Berlin. For this building, Sir Norman Foster’s Studio and the former German chancellor, Helmut Kohl, chose Topas in a bold cobalt blue for all chairs in the plenary hall and grey for the other rooms.
