Two Royal Designers for Industry, one from the world of furniture design and one from the world of Formula One racing car design, have collaborated on this super slim composite table. By transferring engineering invention to traditional furniture making the table represents a blended geometric surface. The designers have exploited the inherent rigidity and unique properties of layered carbon fibre combined with state-of-the-art aerospace technology to create an astonishing table that spans extreme lengths and has a thickness of just 2mm at the edge. This sophisticated design can be used simply as an elegant dining table and utilitarian enough to function in a workspace.

The typology of the much celebrated Surface Table is translated into the form of a chair. This product is an evolution of the collaboration between designer Terence Woodgate and famed Formula One designer John Barnard. The same material and processes that facilitated the supreme strength and slim, elegant form for the Surface Table are applied to the Surface Chair. The chair’s key characteristics are a svelte profile and highly polished finish that reveals the structure of this exceptional material.
