Two Royal Designers for Industry, one from the world of furniture design and one from the world of Formula One racing car design, have combined their individual skills in the design of this super slim composite table. By using state-of-the-art autosport and aerospace technology and exploiting the inherent rigidity of layered carbon fibre, Terence Woodgate and John Barnard have created an astonishing table. The idea was to take the form of a regular table and stretch it as far as possible. Radius corners, round legs, domed feet and rounded edges accentuates the slimness and seamlessness of the design. The Surface Table is a true engineering accomplishment that spans three metres and has a thickness of just 2mm at the edge: five times thinner than its nearest equivalent. Surface Table is available in two lengths with either a natural lacquered unidirectional carbon fibre or an applied walnut veneer.

The typology of the much celebrated Surface Table is translated into the form of a chair. This product is an evolution of the collaboration between designer Terence Woodgate and famed Formula One designer John Barnard. The same material and processes that facilitated the supreme strength and slim, elegant form for the Surface Table are applied to the Surface Chair. The chair’s key characteristics are a svelte profile and highly polished finish that reveals the structure of this exceptional material.
