Strips de ARFLEX

Sofa belonging to the story of Arflex collection, one of the most famous products, designed in 1972, awarded the Compasso D’Oro Premium, and displayed in various museums in the world as Triennale in Milan, Tokyo, Moma etc. Product featured by a fully removable quilted covers. Available also as bed or sofa-bed. Its modularity enables endless configuration.

(...) Arflex asked me to design a system, easy to produce and easy to sell, this after the experiment of Serpentone (...). I made an easy cover play only, not design. Using any foam structure, of right section, I tried to reproduce the softness, the down of the old cushions (which the foam rubber took away) in the cover, fully removable, washable and changeable. From this, the soft quilt is born.

What I have to tell you, these wonderful Strips, designed in 1972, when we hoped to demythologize sofas, beds, armchairs, symbols of design-wealth, with these soft bundles on which you can sit down, in which you can sleep, washable, removable, articulated, proposed and supported by Arflex, I have to admit with great faith and good will ... had, in time, an incredible success (...). After thirty years, Arflex decides to repropose the sofas STRIPS. For me, it is like a son, already graduate and married, comes home again, asking for an opinion. If Robert Redford, Woody Allen and other actors slept on my STRIPS, how does it look the new STRIPS ? (October 2003).

Different times and different practices, but the desire of comfort is nevertime. We widen the STRIPS family ……(November 2009).

Structure of the base in wooden strips, covered in stress-resistant, differentiated density polyurethane foam and heat-bonded polyester fibre with adhesive velveteen. Metal structure of the backrest with reinforced eslastic straps and multiplywood panel, covered in stress-resistant , differentiated density polyurethane foam and heat-bonded polyester fibre with adhesive velveteen. Feet in chrome-plated tubular metal. Fully removable quilted covers.

Available in a lot of dimensions and two different width (cm 95 and 125).
