Ravenna curtain fabric de Kvadrat

Dutch designer and specialist in weaving constructions. Frans Dijkmeijer is regarded as one of Europe’s most knowledgeable when it comes to weaving textures. For decades he has put his stamp on developments in textile design and lives today in the South of France.

Once again his textile expertise - from which students of Dutch Academies of Fine Arts benefit - has been focussed on the Kvadrat collection, in which he presents a so-called Cut-curtain. He places his figures, small squares in light colours, in rhythmic order on a white ground. The special Cut-weave technique - in which surplus yarn on the back is cut off after weaving - makes the figures stand profiled on the transparent surface. The name Ravenna is synonymous with an Italian medieval imperial town, known for its many old buildings covered with mosaics. That the curtain reminds of a mosaic stone with it’s many small square figures, is therefore not due to a simple coincidence.
