Designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni in 1953, the Monachella lamp is one Azucena's most legendary pieces and in terms of its functionality and elegance can be considered the paradigm of an inspiration that spans half a century of Italian design: simple lines, functional and the use of "plain"materials. The slender stand - originally in polished brass, now also in a chrome plated brass version - fits into the rounded cast iron base and ends with a small ring that acts as a "hook" to pick it up by. The sliding reflector is made from a grey metallic sheet with slightly rounded flaps, overlaid and held together by two small buttons. "Monastic" in appearance and substance, this lamp is an indispensable reading companion beside a bed or an armchair.
