The leading international trade fair for ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings, Cersaie, offers the perfect opportunity to cast an analytical eye over current trends in these two branches.

Limiting our latest tranche of our Architonic Trend Analysis series to those brands and their products that exhibited at the recent 2015 edition of the Bologna show, we’re able to present to you a number of interesting insights.

In pole position in our top-ten tile and mosaic brands table (by active text search) is glass-mosaic brand Bisazza, perhaps no surprise given their design-forward approach and their collaborations with a raft of internationally renowned designers. An investment in design culture would seem to pay off. Eight out of ten of the brands are Italian (on home turf, as it were), reflecting also the fact that the ceramics industry is still to a large extent Italian-based. Spain is represented in the rankings with VIVES Céramica in third place and Inalco in eighth.

Our ceramic-tile products top ten (determined by the number of page view of products sheets on architonic.com) reveal an interesting trend in terms of aesthetics: ceramic products that optically and texturally speak of other materials, such as metal and wood, but have all the valued characteristics of ceramics, such as durability, longevity and hygiene – something that architects certainly appreciate when it comes to specification.

As far as sanitary-ware brands are concerned, it’s a case of North vs South, with the table headed up by German manufacturer Villeroy & Boch, and then followed by nine of the biggest names in the branch, all from Southern Europe. Bisazza makes a reappearance, but this time in ninth position; here, we focused, naturally, on search queries relating to the manufacturer’s sanitary ware, not their mosaic products.

Methodology
All rankings shown are based on traffic information collected on architonic.com. The brand rankings are based on the number of relevant search queries entered in the text search field on architonic.com. The product ranking is based on the number of called-up product sheets on architonic.com, which depends on different traffic sources linking to the respective product sheets, such as product-group navigation on architonic.com, Google relevance of the product sheet itself, and advertising campaigns linking to the product sheet among others.
