This shelving unit was originally designed for la Maison du Mexique, a dormitory at Cite Universitaire, Paris. There were six groups chosen to design various parts of the campus; Perriand was assigned the cafeteria, the meeting rooms, and forty students' rooms. She collaborated with Sonia Delaunay who was in charge of the coloration. The furniture was fabricated at the Ateliers Jean Prouve, the only workshop with which Perriand would work.
