By envisioning EJ 20 professor Jørgen Gammelgaard has cleverly accentua-ted the contrast between stern masculine exterior and soft feminine interior. The exterior shell supports the soft cushions, which have all been afforded extra volume due to the thinness of the under-frame. The curve of the firm armrest, which is repeated in the loose cushion, creates
an unexpected effect, which helps give the sofa its look of suppleness, as well as under-lining its singularity.
Jørgen Gammelgaard was one of the most talented and versatile designers in Denmark. From 1987 until his death, he was a professor at The Academy of Fine Arts.
