This column-like cylindrical lamp features a delicate shade that is visually offset by a solid base.
The choice of materials (a central rust-coloured iron structure and a cloth shade) give the piece an earthy, classical feel. The Dórica was designed as a personal gift, but is now available to the design-conscious public.
Designers Miralbell and Raventós’s interest in formal composition is reflected in the Dórica’s balanced design where the sculptural metal foot echoes the form of the elongated shade. Between shade and foot is a metallic shaft whose upper tip is covered in leather. The lamp is fitted with a handle so it can be easily moved. The cylindrical foot is light but surprisingly stable, considering that it accounts for only 1/5 of the lamp’s total length.
The Dórica is halfway between a table and a floor lamp and is excellent for either general or mood lighting.
The simple ribbon shade reflects the designers’ concern with light. Contrary to appearances, the inner frame is not cylindrical but hexagonal, so that when it is covered with ribbon, a small space stops the inner and outer ribbons from overlapping and spreads the light more uniformly.
