Studio Nendo opened in 2002, and now has two branches, one in Tokyo and another in Milan. The philosophy is identified within its name: Nendo is Japanese for clay, and suggests the suppleness and flexibility of design and living spaces. Oki Sato (Canada, 1977) is CEO and concept creator of the studio, which deals with architecture, interior design, furnishing and product and graphic design for companies and Japanese and European trade names. He has received many international awards, such as the special mention at the 2003 Design Report Award, the Tokyo Designers Block Award in 2002 and 2003, the nomination to the Ell Decor International Design Award, Japan and the JCD Award of Excellence and Special Mention in 2005. In 2011 Nendo won the Design Award of the Year by Wallpaper * magazine.
