The Info-Rama multipurpose centre in Sandvika, on the outskirts of greater Oslo, was inaugurated in the autumn of 2007.
The new volumes form a link between previously unconnected centres to create one, continual retail and multi-use centre. The new-build consists of a large centre, retail bridges, and a plinth volume beneath a residential complex forming a “retail street” to the existing wing of the original Sandvika shopping centre.
The total new built area of 50.000m² contains restaurants, training and health spa facilities, offices and parking, whilst connecting en route to an existing hotel and multi-screen cinema.
The main volume has an interesting placement at a busy motorway junction on the main east-west artery between Oslo and Kristiansand.
As a portal building to the northbound E16 to Bergen, the curved facade addresses the observer at speed, whilst screening the main entrance.
The glass outer skin with randomized, offset profiles gives flexibility to enable light openings and solid, insulated outer walls where needed.
The pale brick facades are a vernacular address to Sandvika’s characteristic white brick buildings.
