Ponti was a prolific designer whose passion for creation is apparent in the wide range of items he designed from architecture, furniture, and lighting to ceramics and silverware. This cabinet is emblematic of Ponti's architectural approach to design with its vertical orientation, hierarchical structure and meticulous details. As Ponti's designs evolved, he remained committed to classic Italian forms. The fluidity he saw between Classicism and Modernism was evident in all of his designs; his modernist style was always accented with traditional lines. The rectangular chambers and arched shelves of this cabinet suggest grandiose architecture while the brass detailing is evocative of classical adornment. These rich qualities are coupled with linear directionality and minimal decoration give the piece a pure, reductive form.
