This unique lamp comes from a small series of lighting that Zahara Schatz produced by hand in the early 1950s. The Plexiglas is manipulated while still hot, "into suggestive and unconfined shapes" and imbedded with various elements of wire, mesh and metal shavings that create an abstract composition. Schatz then intertwines the plastic with brass tubing, resulting in a jeweled effect. The chandelier becomes a unique sculptural form and an excellent example of American biomorphic design because the elements are "set in three or four positions, and [it] makes good sense when seen from every angle."
