AROUND 1923, ARCHITECT-DESIGNER PIERRE CHAREAU DEVELOPED THE DESIGNS FOR A RANGE OF SEAT FURNITURE CHARACTERIZED BY THE DISTINCTIVE FORM OF THE FRONT LEGS, SCULPTED IN A WAY THAT RESEMBLED THE TWO UPRIGHT ELEMENTS OF A LYRE. THE "LYRE" FORM WAS TO BE THE BASIS FOR SEAT FURNITURE PRESENTED BY CHAREAU IN HIS BUREAU-BIBLIOTHÈQUE FOR THE AMBASSADE FRANÇAISE AT THE 1925 EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS DÉCORATIFS ET INDUSTRIELS MODERNES.
