Nomadic Cockpit - Yacht Nirvana
The vast expanse of the ocean Experience it in full in award-winning nautical design

The client’s brief was a serious challenge: on the one hand, the desire for a comfortable, high-performance yacht with a luxurious interior; on the other, a limited height of 3 m draught that calls for well-planned optimised handling of the compact volume. The greatest challenge for the nautical interior design is using the precious surfaces sensibly; their proportions are an essential factor because of the ship’s width and the available room height. Instead of creating small functional boxes that may have provided the required privacy but not views of the most important element – the ocean – the desire was for visual transparency and spatial expanse. This resulted in the concept of the “Nomadic Cockpit”, required to provide a high level of flexibility and adaptability but also a feeling of being at home. Based on a system of so-called filter zones, the borders between inside and out, top and bottom simply disappear. Glass walls, sliding elements and translucent panels that open and close at the touch of a button when required, line and extend the interior. The chosen materials are pure elegance and have their own contemporary style – between originality and functionality. Dark woods are cleverly combined with soft leather surfaces and silk frames in stainless steel without appearing dark and gloomy. Warm tones and the variety of shades and textures provide a contrast to the indirect lighting, and are used without any further decorative elements. Glass is one of the preferred materials used by interior designers. Apart from being used structurally in the form of a glass staircase, the material is also used in the cabins for aesthetic reasons. The bathroom is no longer solely a place of functional physical care and cleansing; the optical room extension created by separating the bedroom and the bathing zone means that cleansing once again becomes a celebrated ritual that no longer has to take place behind closed doors. The exclusive fittings and a sauna complete this claim.

The Yacht Nirvana was awarded the Prix de Design at the Monaco Boat Show and the Superyacht Design Award at Fort Lauderdale, well-deserved recognition of the close teamwork with Vitters Shipyard and the yacht designers, Dubois Naval Architects.
