The new DesignLab, in the form of a Swiss “Arvenstübli”, reflects the design philosophy of the international hotel chain Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, while also providing a symbol and showcase for a modern sense of “Swissness”. The new area acts as both a meeting / presentation space for staff and as a waiting area for guests.
Here, the traditional, wood-panelled Arvenstübli found over hundreds of years in old Swiss houses has been re-interpreted and modernised. The ornamentation on the furnishings is based on the traditional Swiss “sgraffito” wall decoration that can still seen on the facades of houses in many areas of the canton of Graubünden. Choice design pieces by Classicon, moooi, Tom Dixon or Vitra complete the ambience, creating a modern yet comfortable mood inside the new DesignLab. “The DesignLab is important for office communication, collaboration and, ultimately, innovation. Creative brainstorming sessions away from people’s ordinary desks are just more successful, and they increase the feeling of wellbeing during the day-to-day routine of the office, which is often rather stressful”, says Lilian Roten, Vice President Operations Swissôtel & Resorts.
